Food and feed demand rising in Vietnam

Vietnam’s soybean imports will rise to two million tonnes in 2019, up from 1.7 million tonnes in 2018. Also, soybean meal imports are likely to jump to 5.3 million tonnes vs 5.15 million tonnes y-o-y.

Vegetable oil production will continue to increase in 2019 to meet soaring  demand in domestic and offshore markets. Palm oil imports will account for up to 89% of total vegetable oil imports.

Bunge’s crushing plant in the south says it will crush 1.2 million tonnes. Dabaco’s new crushing plant in the north is scheduled to be operable by Q4, 2018 and will operate at 1,000 tonnes/day, putting total crushing capacity in Vietnam to 1.5 million tonnes in 2019.

 

Feed production in Vietnam in 2019 is projected at 30.9 million tonnes, with livestock feed at 24.1 million tonnes and aqua feed 6.8 million tonnes.
