Classical swine fever reported again in Japan

Classical swine fever (CSF) infections have been reported at a pig farm in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, part of the country’s Kanto eastern region which also includes Tokyo, according to Japan’s Agriculture Ministry.

The latest outbreak marked the 41st case of swine fever since the Gifu case – the country’s first in 26 years – was reported in September of 2018.

A test was conducted jointly by the central government and the Yamanashi prefectural government after some pigs shipped from the Chichibu farm to a meat-processing facility in Yamanashi Prefecture, southwest of Saitama, died in early September.
