Thailand targets more offseason corn

Thailand’s Cooperative Promotion Department is trying to get more farmers to grow corn as a second crop after rice to increase the supply of good quality corn.

Some 113,463 farmers with 158,217 hectares have already subscribed to the program and will be ready to plant corn by Jan 15, 2019, but the government hopes to double that to 320,000 hectares.  Major feed producers namely BRF Feed (Thailand), Lee Pattana, Betagro, Cargill Meat (Thailand), Thai Food Group and eight more traders have committed to purchasing the off-season corn harvest.
