H5N5 flares up in Taiwan

Taiwanese authorities have euthanized 3,500 ducks in Kaohsiung City following a positive test of H5N5 avian influenza infection.

The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, recently confirmed that 3,583 ducks from a farm in the Qishan District of Kaohsiung City were found to be infected with the H5N5 virus on Sept 13 and were culled.

According to Taiwanโ€™s Animal Health Research Institute, the H5N5 virus could have been transmitted through infected migratory birds.
